With guitar students, I take a tutoring approach: we start with where you are at today and find ways to enjoy and improve what you can do today.
I can suggest music, or we can usually start with songs you want to learn; I love helping students put together arrangements of songs that are just right for their skill level.
I also have a standard program grounded in basic fundamentals of guitar technique, musical performance, and music theory, available for people who are brand new to playing music.
Whether you want to play popular music, worship music, rock, folk, bluegrass, classical, hymns, film scores, or jazz, I design lessons around the kinds of music you want to play while encouraging you to stretch yourself technically and musically.
You can learn chord strumming; finger-picking; how to accompany singing; and how to read chord charts, guitar tab, and standard musical notation.
I teach children and adults from 8 years old to past retirement. I also have experience doing music with students who have learning disabilities or other special needs. I welcome anyone who is interested in enjoying music, at any level.
